Saint Francis of Assisi (1181-1182-1226) was an Italian mystic, poet and friar who founded the Franciscan Order and is known for his radical life of poverty and love for animals and nature. His key writings include the "Canticle of Brother Sun", which was inspired by Psalm 148. His community would pray the Psalms as they traveled and he would recite specific psalms, such as Psalm 142, as he neared the end of his life.
