“Jingle Bells” is one of the best-known, and most commonly sung, American holiday songs in the world. Written in 1850 by James Lord Pierpont, J.P. Morgan’s uncle, he originally copyrighted the song with the name “The One Horse Open Sleigh” in September of 1857. The song was republished in 1859 by Oliver Ditson and Company with the new title “Jingle Bells; or The One Horse Open Sleigh” as reproduced on these notecards.
